David and Rachel Slater
Our roots are in Norfolk where we were both born and brought up. Living in the country we enjoyed the freedom of playing outside and countryside pursuits.
David was a keen footballer, loved fishing and working with wood. After leaving high school he went on to become a cabinet maker and then a wood carver and gilder. Later he expanded to building work.
Rachel loved horses and riding her own horse. She also enjoyed crafts and making her own clothes and playing the piano. Rachel also became a gilder and for a number of years they worked together at a family firm in Norfolk. Both of them were brought up to attend church and made a commitment for Christ at an early age. When Rachel was 16 years of age her father passed away through traumatic circumstances, which led her to have a nervous breakdown and suffer from depression for the next 15 years.
During that time David and Rachel were married, however 3 years into their marriage it began to break down. After receiving some counselling to save their marriage the root of Rachel's depression was discovered and she was wonderfully freed from it along with their marriage being restored.
They were blessed with 2 lovely children but when the youngest was only a year old Rachel's health, which had deteriorated again, took a rapid decline. It was eventually discovered that she had Candida / M.E..
It was through this journey that the family then made for the healing of Rachel's body, that led to the vision of retreats and finally the beginning of Way to Health.
That journey led them from Norfolk to Salford (Manchester) to undertake a Rhema Bible training course. Which led to the pioneering of a healing rooms in Salford. This ran every week for just under 3 years with a team of 23 volunteers.
When this part of the journey was finished a leadership course opened up which they both studied for one year. The following year was the beginning of one day retreats in their home.
Four years later, David and Rachel were able to purchase a lodge on the west coast of Cumbria where they have been able to offer weekend retreats. This year has seen the opportunity to purchase a second lodge enabling the couple to have groups of up to 12 guests at a time.
The aim of Way to Health is to provide a safe and peaceful place for people to use to get away from the stresses of everyday living. The lodges can be hired for personal use, for holidays or retreats by individuals or organisations/ churches.
Or guests can book onto one of the organised retreats by Way to Health.
